Perspectives on geometry and dynamics of discrete groups
Regards croisés sur la géométrie et la dynamique des groupes discrets

CIEM (International Centre for Mathematical Meetings)
Castro Urdiales (Spain), October 2-5, 2013

The Atlantic Geometry Seminar is an annual mathematical meeting to discuss geometry, dynamic systems and their interactions, held at the International Centre for Mathematical Meetings (CIEM) depending on the University of Cantabria and the Local Council of Castro Urdiales in Spain.

The fourth edition of the AGS will deal with different perspectives regarding discrete
groups. The aim of the meeting is to bring together researchers working in different fields,
namely combinatorial and geometric group theory, low dimensional topology, hyperbolic
geometry and conformal dynamics, which are all related to this notion.

  • Gilles Courtois (University of Paris 6)
  • Françoise Dal’Bo (University of Rennes)
  • Vicent Guirardel (University of Rennes)
  • Peter Haïssinsky (Paul Sabatier University)
  • Andrei Jaikin (Autonomous University of Madrid)

Morning sessions will involve two mini courses by Mark Baker (University of Rennes)
and Barak Weiss (Tel Aviv University) and some one-hour talks. Afternoon sessions will be dedicated to discussion workshops conducted by Michel Boileau (Aix-Marseille University), Erwan Lanneau (Fourier Institut) , Samuel Lelièvre (University of Paris-Sud 11) and Joan Porti (Autonomous University of Barcelona).

All young doctors and doctoral students taking part will be encouraged to present their
results in the discussion and poster sessions.

This edition is co-organised with the french network `GDR PLATON’, in collaboration
with the french ANR projects `GDSous’ and `DiscGroup’, the Swiss Doctoral Program in
Mathematics and the israelian wandering seminar `Action Now’. For more information and
registration, please consult SAG and PLATON websites and or contact Françoise Dal’Bo ( or Fernando Alcalde ( before July 31th, 2013.
